RISE UP

SHORT ANIMATION FILM 6 MINUTES

“Rise Up! is a short film created by Grace Stelk in 2020 in response to the numerous Black Lives Matter protests worldwide. The film addresses questions received from young people after the murder of George Floyd.
This award-winning short film, honored with the Best Animation award at the Conch Shell International Film Festival in New York in 2022, not only reflects on the phenomenon of racism but also explores actionable perspectives with the children. It delves into what one can do when a victim or witness of racism, what others can do, and what must be done. From experience, Grace Stelk notes that the children are often much more advanced in their understanding than the adults.
Racism exists in various forms, and Rise Up! specifically addresses anti-black racism, providing answers to the following questions:
WHERE DOES IT COME FROM, WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE, WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR OUR SOCIETY TODAY?”

Directed and written by Grace Stelk
